Mohan Mehra, former Westchester Arc president and current Westchester Arc Foundation board member, has been elected secretary of the board of directors for the Arc of the U.S. He has been a member of the board since 2004.

Mr. Mehra is one of 24 board members and the only representative from New York State. The Arc of the U.S. is the leading national organization advocating for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It is a membership organization with over 900 local and state chapters, including Westchester Arc, across the country.

In his new position, Mr. Mehra will play a larger role in helping direct the areas of fundraising, health promotion, and disability prevention. He will also continue efforts to shape the association’s public policy goals and be responsible for major governance decisions.

Mehra was president of Westchester Arc’s board of directors from 2001 to 2005. Prior to that, he served as treasurer and chaired committees responsible for adult day services and strategic planning. He retired from Kraft Foods with 25 years of experience in business strategy, marketing and new business development. He earned an M.S. in operations research from Cornell University and attended the Multinational Marketing Program at Harvard Business School.

“Mohan brings his wisdom, dedication and vast experience to the Arc’s board of directors,” comments Ric Swierat, Westchester Arc executive director. “As president of Westchester Arc, he led with compassion and commitment to enhancing the services of individuals with developmental disabilities, and it’s wonderful to see him applying the same qualities on the national level. His new role as secretary is well-deserved.”

Westchester Arc is the oldest and largest agency in the county serving children and adults with developmental disabilities such as autistic spectrum disorders, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy and learning disabilities. The agency has long been committed to social inclusion because of the benefits to the entire community.
